The tender of Mr. John Town ley of £222 has 'been .accepted for the furnishings of the now Borough Council offices. Tenders closed at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the local Bands Office for the lease of a grazing run of 5820 acres at Hikurangi, inland from Waigiro Bay. Five applications were received, and a ballot will be held at 11 o’clock this morning. 'The Gisborne 'Private .Band will hold a grand social in His 'Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening, .June 30th. (Music will be supplied bv the Band, under the direction of Mr. D. McKillop, conductor, and dancing will he continued from 8 p.m. until 1 .n.m. At the Police Court yesterday morning. before Mr. H. Lewis, J.P., a man named John Kennett was fined 40s and 2s costs, or in default four days’ imprisonment, for being drunk while in charge of a horse. Four days were allowed in which to pay the- fine. ■Mr. Alec Verne, representing Mevnell and -Gunn’s Beatty-Mclntosli Company, which is at present playing in Auckland to crowded houses, arrived in Gisborne by the s'.s. Victoria yesterday to make arrangements for the company’s visit here. The season will he of four nights’ duration, commencing on July Ist.
