CASE AGAINST A NE,WSVENDOR. D AMAGES OF £IOO. » Press Association. OHRiISTOHURCH, June 10. An action of more than ordinary interest was heard at tho Supreme Court before Mr. Justice Denniston to-day, iivhen Charles Boxshall claimed from Adolf iSelilesinger the sum of £SOO damages in respect of a libellous article appearing in the May ‘2nd issue of tho weekly paper “Truth,” published in Wellington, copies of which issue were circulated by the defendant. Tho ease was heard before His Honor and a special jury. A yerdict of £IOO was returned-. .The “Timar-u Post” of a recent date says:—Mr. tO .T. J. Alpere. of -Christchurch, has a case o>f considerable interest in hand at the present time, this being an action -primarily - against John Norton’s “Truth,” a paper published in Wellington. But before the main action- comes on for hearing there is to -be decided a side issue. This is an action against a Christchurch news vendor named Sclileeinger, who is -to be charged with having sold a. copy of “Truth” which contained an alleged libel on C. -Boxslnll ,t-he well-known representative wicket-keeper. The claim is for £SOO damages. The alleged libel consists in a charge of misappropriating money collected by Boxshall in his capacity as a debt collector.
