ELLERSLIE, RACE MEETING.
A SUGGESTION TO THE C.J.C.
(Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. Tho secretary of the Canterbury iJockey Club was seen by a press rei presentative to-day regarding the suggestion contained in a Press Association telegram \from Auckland that in order to get over one of the dimculties connected with the race meeting proposed to'be held there in connection with the visit of the United States fleet, it would bo a- grateful concession On the part of the Canterbury Jockey Club if it agreed to its steeplechase meeting being held on tho Ellerslio racecourse. The secretary said that the club had received no comuiucation oil the matter, and if the Press Association telegram put the suggestion properly he thought it would bo impossible to carry it out. - He imagined that the object of the race meeting proposed’to bo held,in Auckland was to provide the committee arranging for the welcome of the fleet with funds for entertainment purposes. AVELLINGTON, June 11.. , The New Zealand training ship Amokura will leave for Auckland early in August, and remain there during the visit of the American fleet.

Sunday, August 9: Official visit of Admiral to Governor. _ Alomday, August 10: Landing and official recent-ion at wharf by Prime Minister and members of Ministry, when the Admiral will be presented with souvenirs of the visit from the nsople of New Zealand for transmission fo President Roosevelt. A souvenir will also bo presented to the -Vdniiral. A procession will then ho formed -to the Military Hall", where the Mayor will present an address of welcome. Monday afternoon : Review of troops. Evening: Official banquet. . Tuesday, August 11 iMayoral reception and State ball at night. Wednesday, August 12: .Races at KllerSlie; departure at 3 p.m. of the affinors of the fleet for. Rotorua. Thursday. August 13: Visits to thermal sights. , ' Friday. August 14: Return to Auckland. _ ~ iSatUrday, August lo: Left open. In addition to tlio above programme, the Mayor wall, at tho conclusion of tbo procession on .Monday, entertain the principal visitors at lunch at his private residence, and arrangements are lieing made to provide for the remainder at the leading clubs.

TOO MUCH HOSPITALITY

The New York correspondent of -the “Daily Mail” reports that flier# are over a thousand- deserters from the American fleet since it arrived in Californian waters. Owing to a superabundance ot hospitality, tho sailors have become dissatisfied with life aboard.
