The Referees’ Association discussed the proposed alterations of tho Rugby game which will ho sent to tho Now Zealand Union in time for a conference with Mr. Harnett, manager of tho Anglo-Wolsih iteam. The proposal that nill freo kicks bo unrestricted was carried. In discussing tho abolition of tho wing fonmrd a proposal was carried by tho casting vote of the chairman that po player bo allowed to advance beyond an imaginary line drawn through tho back of the scrum. It was resolved that tho ball bo thrown in at least ten yards on tho occasion of every throwin if.rom touch, failing which the offonding side have a freo kick. given against them it on yards from tho lino.. It was resolved that df a player knock on in a .passing rush but recovered before tho bill touched the ground, no scrummage bo given. The “Post” says there is a strong and persistent rumor prevailing in local football circles that a number ol senior footballers played their last amateur game on Saturday. Names nro explicitly mentioned, and incliulo those of some of the most prominent cx]ioiients of the game in, the district. It is further declared by men ivlio claim to be “in the knoiV” that two senior clubs will go over bodily to tho professional game. What , will actually occur when tho professional team arrives by the s.s. Warrimoo remains to be seen, but surprises are anticipated. MANAWATU MATCH WITH BRITISHERS. (Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.i June 9. The demand of the A. and P. Association for thirty three and a third per cent, cf the. gross takings of the Manawatu-Anglo-Welsh match, for the use of the show grounds, was dealt wiith by the Management Committee of the Manawatu Union tonight. Proposals were made to p 1 ■ y the match oil the sports ground or the Feilding race course, the latter of which had been offered free of charge. It was eventually decided to appoint a deputation to unit on the General Committee of the A. and P. Asgoeution next week with a view to coining tio .an- am.iea:ble anrangement for the use of the show grounds, and it was pointed out that this was the best ground available for the match piovided satisfactory terms .can be arranged. If the Association persists Li its demands the match will be played on the Feilding race course.
