SQUADRON BOXING MATCHES. The Northern Boxing Association, according to a telegram receiy-ed today, has been approved by the Go-vernci-in-Council, its registration having been accepted. It will,- at a meeting to be held this evening, be asked to approve of letters to the Admiral of the American fleet and the Vice-Admiral (Sir Richard Poore) commanding the Australasian squadron, suggesting that during the fleet’s visit two boxing matches should take place. Admiral Sperry is asked to approve of a, match for a money prize or a trophy betyveen the two best men in the fleet,' and Admiral Poore is asked to approve of a similar contest betyveen the tyvo best -boxers on the vessels of the Australasian squadron. These contests should form the features of a boxing carnival which it is proposed'should take place in the Garrison Hall under the auspices of •the Auckland Garrison Officers Club; and, it is hoped, under the patronage of His Excellency, the Governor.
