A PRIVILEGE QUESTION.
A SIGNIFICANT DECISION. A DETERMINED FIGHT. United Press Association —Copy-right (Received June 8, 1.19 a.m.) SYDNEY, June. 7. The. Judicial Committee of the Privy Council'delivered judgment in the case Mackintosh v. Dun and Co., an appeal from tho decision of the High Court of Australia. Tho case is one ,of the most important yet tried here, and involved a question of privilege in regal’d to the right of publication iby defendants of certain mercantile reports to subscribers in which were made statements as to plaintiff’s business. Defendants pleaded privilege,' but tho Court gave plaintiff tho verdict, with damages £BOO. On an appeal to tho Full Court it was decided that the publication of • the . reports was privileged. An appeal followed to the High Court, which also held that ■tho publication was ■ privileged. The case then went to the Privy Council, with the result that tho original verdict for plaintiff stands.
