THE WORLD’S CHAMPION TYPIST.

.TYPING 120 WORDS A MINUTE. The champion, lady typist of the world is Miss Rosa Fritz, who has been giving tests of her ability at Olympia, London'. From “unseen copy” she can type 143 words in one minute, but her best record, by which she won the world’s championship, was 10/ words per minute.for twenty consecutive " minutes. From practised matter—that is, a subject already commited to memory—she can easily surpass this record. Her best performance is 207 words.in one minute. ' For one of her speed-tests she was blind-folded, and her small dimpled hands simply flew over the key-board In exactly one minute she had typed ninetv-ftve words without an error, although she declares she can do better. Miss Fritz is very particular about her diet. It would be hopeless for her to attempt to work after a heavy meal. Ice-cream in the summer is a splendid stimulant, but in the winter months chocolate and apples form the best diet for the champion. A typewriting test is no easy matter, for the competitors rriust typo for one hour and a half. Thirty minutes is devoted to copying from lithographed manuscript, ' thirty minutes from printed matter, and thirty minutes from individual dictation. Each candidate must bring his or her own machine. Each mistake—even of failing to properly space the words—deducts three words from the total.
