FIRE AT NELSON.
INADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY. INCENDIARI SAL SUSPECTED. H’ress Association. NELSON, June 3. About 9.30 last night “The Beacons,” a nine-roomed residence at tlio foot of Britannia Heights, the Port, occupied by Colin Campbell and family, owned by Richardson’s estate, was destroyed* by lire, making the third fire at the Port in ten days. Airs. Campbell and neico were in the house ut tlio time, the others being away a at concert in town, .uvstenousl’y the garden hose, which had been connected eariler in the evening, was found disconnected, and consequently there was no means of chocking'the liames, which broke out ill the draw-ing-room. It i\as some time before the fire alarm was received in town, and as the water supply pressure was inadequate little could be done to save tiie place. Some furniture was rescued, hut the loss was considerable. Inct'ndiarism is suspected in regal’d to three recent fires, ’hut there is no evidence beyond conjecture. The furniture was insured for £460 in tiie Northern office. Tiie house was also insured but details are unavailable owing to the holiday.
