A BLAZE IN SYDNEY.
MANUFACTURING WORKS DESTROYED. A HEAVY LOSS. United Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY. June 2. The Aleadowbank Alanufacturing Company's railway, carriage and general engineering works, on the banks of the Parramatta river, were destroyed by fire at 3 o’clock this morning The works are one of the largest m the State, covering three acres. Owing to tho distance from town, fire appliances were not available in time to save anything. The total loss is unknown, hut the damage in the carriage sheds alone is estimated at £30,000. The fire throws 350 men out of employment.

The employers and a few volunteer firemen, assisted by a lucky change in the wind, succeeded in checking the fire after the main buildings had been consumed,. Besides valuable machinery, heavy stocks of material on the property were destroyed-, including eight lavatory carriages, three tramway carriages, a number of-un-finished carriages, and portions of big contracts for the State railways the company had'in hand.
