And Gisborne Harbor Board Office. H. M. PORTER, ; , Returning Officer. TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE COOK AND WAIAPU HARBOR DISTRICT.

Ladies and gentlemen,— As previously announced, I am a Candidate for the vacancy on the Gisborne Harbor Board. I am satisfied that our future prosperity will be materially aided by securing a reliable Outer Harbor, and, with this in view, consider that a scheme based on the best engineering advice possible should be placed before the ratepayers at the earliest opportunity. I am also of opinion that the expenditure on the river should be curtailed as far as is compatible with keeping the channel open to its present depth, and maintaining the best shipping facilities possible, and consider this can be well done without the strikng of a rate. I would strongly oppose any unnecessary expenditure in blasting in the river other than the removal of any rocks that may be found obstructive to the traffic in the channel. Any measures brought forward calculated to advance the interests of the Distriot, or to afford increased facilities for handling our produce and merchandise at'the port, or conducive to the comfort of fho travelling public,'- will iaest Ayithjny_hearty_ co-operation. I remain, Yours faithfully, T. HOLDEN.
