At tho wool sales there is animated competition for all sorts at prices the highest of the series. Americans are operating on best New Zealand crossbreds.
The New Zealand Loan and -Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on stock sale held on Thursday, 21st inst.:—The attendance was fairly up to the average, but the yardings appeared to be in excess of requirements, consequently a dull sale was experienced. .Sheep :Wo yarded 4126, and sold 2101. Wethers and lioggets mot with fair competition'.,' but”old ewes were neglected; there appears to be no demand for them. Our dav’s quotations were as follows: Ciii Ihoggets 2s 9<l to 5s 3d, better lines shorn, hoggets 6s 8d to 7s Id, fair hoggets in wool 8s to 8s lid, wetliers (2-tooth) 11s 9d to 12s Gd, ewes (2-tooth) 12s 3d, aged ewes in lamb 6s Gd to Ss Gd. Cattle: "W p yarded 325 and sold 136. The demand for female stock was lifeless, but steers sold well, and there was fair competition for young cattle. The days’ prices were as follows: Small calves 116 to 16s, better lines 20s to 2Gs, yearling heifers 31s,- fifteen months’ steers £2 ss, 18 months’ to 2-vear-old steers £3 19s Gd, herd cows in low condition 255, Hotter sorts £2, dairy heifers £4 2s 6.
