GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD. J.OXT.HAOI{,DINARY VACANCY. NOMINATIONS. X HERBERT MTJSGRAV.E PORI . TER, Returnin'' Officer tor tho Gisborne Harbor Board, hereby give notice that I have this day received the following •nominations for tho vacant seat on the said Board:— HOLDEN, Thomas TOAVNLEY, John A POLL tor the Election of ONE of these Candidates will be taken on THURSDAY NEXT, the 28th inst., between the hours of 9 a.m. and 0 n.ni„ at the Gisborne Harbor Board s Office, Read’s Quay, Gisborne, and other Polling Places, as hereafter notified. H. M. PORTER, Returning Officer, Gisborne Harbor Board. TO~THE RATEPAYERS OF THE COOK AND WAIAPU HARBOR DISTRICT. Ladies and gentlemen,— As previously announced, I am a Candidate for the vacancy on the Gisborne Harbor Board. I am satisfied that our future prosperity will bo materially aided by securing a reliable Outer Harbor, and, with this in view, consider that a scheme based on the best engineering advice possiblo should bo placed before tho ratepayers at tho earliest opportunity. I am also of opinion that the expenditure on tho river should be curtailed as far as is compatible with keeping tho channel open to its present depth, and maintaining the best shipping facilities possiblo, and consider this can be well done without tlio strikng of a rate. I would strongly oppose any unnecessary expenditure in blasting in the river other than the removal of any rocks that may be lound obstructive to the traffic in the channel. Any measures brought forward calculated to advance tho interests of the District, or to afford increased facilities for handling our produce and merchandise at tho port, or conducivo to the comfort of fji© travelling public, will meet with my hearty co-operation. I remain. Yours faithfully, T. HOLDEN.
