MATAWHERO STOCK (SALES.
There was u moderate attendance of buyers at the usual weekly sale at Matawhero yesterday, and the yardings were also slightly smaller than usual. The quality of the stock was well up to recent standards, but there was a poor demand, and spiritless bidding, and a slack sale resulted. SHEEP. About 8000 sheep were yarded. Eat wethers sold lrom 11s Ocl to 12s 52<1, inferior sorts Os Oil. Eat ewes brought up to 12s 3d, and poorer sorts changed. hands at from 2s Sd upwards. Hoggets sold fairly well up to 8s Ud. Empty ewes brought from Gs to Is Od, and ewes in iamb (mixed ages) realised from os Od to 8s Gd. The following were some of the principal sales : —Eight fat ewes Os 9d, 27 ewes in lamb 8s 7d, 116 lambs 4s 2d, 15 wethers 7s, 35 two-tooth ewes 12s 3d, 23 ewes 10s 7d, 90 hoggets 2s 9d, 120 ' hoggets 2s Od, 85 wethers 12s 2d, 74 ewes 10s, 08 lioggets Is lOd, 77 ewes 2s Bd, 113 wethers 11s 9d, 350 hoggets os Od, 08 two-tooth ewes 11s,. 39 wethers 12s Od, 18 do IDs, 245 hoggets 8s 9d, 309 hoggets 5s 3d, 73 hoggets 0s Sd, 31 ewes in lamb 4s, 27 wethers 11s 9d, 30 wethers 0s Gd, 274 hoggets 7s lid, 280 wethers 12s Id, 400 do 8s od.. CATTLE. Over 000 head of cattle were penned, and included amongst them were some fair lines of fats. Store cattle sold slowly, at recent prices, but hardly a pen of fat stock changed hands. One nice, line, however, was disposed of., and realised TO 2s Od, and four forward .Shorthorn heifers ietched £4 ss. The "following sales were effected: 5 calves 9s, 1 cow TO 7s Oil. 1 bull T 1 10s, 3 calves £1 15s. J heifers Ti 2s (id. 9 calves 11s, 11 bullocks T"3 10s, 2 heifers £1 2s Od, 3 do T 3 10s, 0 bullocks TO 2s Oil. PIGS. Only a few. were offered, and they were sold at satisfactory prices. Six porkers brought Tl 12s 6, and 9 suckers 7s.
The New Zealand Loan anil Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from-their London office: “As compared with last sales closing rates, prices are about 1.0 per cent lower for crossbred slipe, about 5 per cent lower for merino, medium and inferior, about 5 per cent higher lor coarse and medium crossbred; good merino is on a par with closing rates of last sales.”
