SENIOR. COMPETITION. - WEST END 31; TAKITIMU 3. The above teams met on tho .Domain on Saturday afternoon, for tho first time this season. , West End were fully represented, but Takitimu, played live subsitutes. Takitimu won the Loss, and .Newton kicked oil' lor AVest End. Tlio Blacks at once commenced to press, and Thompson relieved with a fine kick to midfield. Tim Blacks back division got going, but Gerard failed to take a pass from Graham. A bad miss by the Reds’ lull-back nearly let Newton in, but over-anxiety spoiled a good chance to score. Fairly even play in midfield was indulged in for a time, when Hakowai, who was working hard, broke away from tho line-out and very nearly scored. 'The Blacks, however, wore not to bo dollied, and Aialloy, obtaining from a line-out, seoroil at the corner. Wi Repa lailuil with the kick. West End 3; Takitimu nil. Tho Blacks pressed hard after tlio kick off, but Thompson transferred play to his opponents’ territory with a screw kick. Hero Gibson obtained possession, and transleired to Thompson, who in turn gave to Adiunson, the latter having hard lines in Rising the ball on the line. Takitimu, with tlio wind in their favor, continue l -! -o attack, but their olforts to score were fruitless. Some good play by Gibson, Adamson, and To Reinga was next- witnessed, and AVi Repa saved by marking cleverly. From the kick the AVest End forwards followed up hard, and Bartlett (Takitimu) foolishly, kicked light aerbss his own goal. Aialloy picked up, and transferred to AVi Repa, who scored a rather lucky try, and converted himself. AVest End 8; Takitimu nil. Aialloy and AVi Repa wore nearly in again on re-starting,-but the former was tackled by Thompson just in time. West End were uenalised for off-side, hut the kick was charged down by Pine, and Helce' forced his way over the line. Kaipara failed to add the extra points. Shortly afterwards the whistle was blown for half-time with the scores: West End H Takitimu .

After the iulerval, Takitimu were uufortuuate enough to lose the services of Adamson, who had received an injury to the groin, aiul did not resume. Further disaster was, however, in store for the Reds, as Thompson, who had been playing a splendid game; had his finger dislocated in endeavoring to tackle Wi Repa. Thus weakened, the Reds lost all the hope they had, and Brown receiving in midfield, passed to AVi Repa, who gave to Kaipura. This player made a tricky run, and passed to Aliller, who scored easily. Callaghan made no attempt to collar him. \A i Repa was successful with the kick. AAest End 16, Takitimu nil. ' Almost immediately - afterwards Kaipara again got possession, and passing to Malloy, that player had no troubio in -grounding behind tho posts, Brown taking the kick, and just grazed the bar, the ball going over, \7est End 21, Takitimu nil. Spurred by these reverses, the Reds weakened as they were, played desperately, and from a loose scrambling nisli Taboo got over amidst cheers. Bowman took the kick, but failed. WEST END 10; HAITI CITY 9. These juniors met for the first time on Saturday, and a very close and hard game resulted. -In the first spoil Burke dropped a penalty goal and also kicked a penalty goal for West End, while O’Neill kicked two penalty goals for City. Tho first spell ended with the scores —West End 7 points, Kaiti City 6 points. In the second half, play was fast and furious, Kaiti City atacking strongly. The defence of the West End backs was very good. W. Hepburn scored a nice try for the “young Blacks,” which Was unconverted, and Eraser scored for Kaiti City, O’Neill making a very good at tempt at goal from a difficult angle. This was all the scoring, and the game finally ended in a. victory for West End'bv one point. Scores: West End 10 points; Kaiti City 9 points. . For the winners, R-ewi, C. Somerville, McLaclilan, A. -Hepburn, Smith, and Campbell played well, while O’Neill, A. Luttrell, Moles, Patterson, and Bright were'the pick of Kaiti-City.

THIRD FIFTEENS. KAITI CITY 8; WEST END 5. The* third fifteens of the above clubs met .on No. 2 ground prior to the other games. After a very oven game the Blues were victorious by 8 points (a goal and a penalty goal) to 5 points (a goal from a try). THE GAME IN AUCKLAND. Press Association. AUCKLAND,. May 10. MAORI TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. Press Association. TA-URANGA, May 16. The first representative football team of Maoris and half-castc. Maoris to leave New Zealand, take tlieir departure for Australia during the present month. The team has been irgnnised by Mr Asher, the well-known New Zealand rcpreseutatnve, and Mr T. J. O’Farrell a prominent Sydney referee. The men comprising the team hail from Taurauga, To Puke, Maketu, Mnlata, Rotorua, Auckland, Northern Wiiiioa, Hamilton, Taumartmui, Manawatu, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, anil ex players from St. Johns, St. Stephens,' and TV Ante colleges. The, combination will visit New South Wales and Queensland, and will play the 15 aside game. The -forwards average fourteen stone, and include some internrov-iiicial men. The rear division averages about 12 stone 711)., and many of these are noted for their prowess on the football field. The combination numbers thirty and most of the players have already arrived at Taurauga, and are. busy training here. Judging by the form displayed they will be formidable opponents to tiie' Australians. The. tour will extend over twelve weeks, and in addition to football, exhibitions of halt as, war dances, and -Maori games will with full equipment. The champion liaka performer and gold medallist of Rotorua accompanies the combination.

PRO-BLACKS BEAT QUEENSLAND

(Received Alay. 17, 8.19 p.m.) BRISBANE, May lb. The Rugby match between New Zealand and’Queensland was a good exhibition. There was lino weather, but the attendance was small. Alright kicked off, and the panic lor the first part was considerably in layer ol tho visitors, the Queenslanders being 1 remum LI v penalised for broaches of the rules. "O’Brien scored for Queensland, but AVatson failed to convert. I lie New Zealanders then took the game into their own hands and had Queensland in difficulties the whole time. Tyler, Barber, AVynyard, and Lile scored, bub Tu'rtil! and AVrigley failed to convert. At- half-time the score was: New Zealand 12, Queensland 3. In the second spell Queensland were outclassed, and the New Zealanders scored as they liked. Lile scored two tries, of which Rowe converted one, and McLean,.
