CHEAP HOUSES.

THE EDISON SYSTEM. ENQUIRIES FROM WELLINGTON

(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, May, 8. A local resident has been in communication witih Edison, the inventor, regarding his schemo for rapid house .building. Tho groat inventor writes to him ns follows:

"This winter I shall construct iron moulds and doviso machinery whereby a full sized house can ,l>o cast in twelve horn's after tho moulds are ill position. At tho end of seven days tho iron moulds are removed and tho house will ho complete and after drying six days will probably be ready for uso. To build this house for one thousand dollars, it is essential that it bo erected on sandy soils. The cost of the moulds will bo 25,000 dollars and the cost of tho other machinery about 15,000 dollars. From this outfit an unlimited number of houses can be erected.” It is probablo that companies will •bo formed who will have several moulds each of different designs and who will go actually into business. Such a schemo would bo welcomed in Wellington, where the cost of building is simply ruinous. Not only is the cost excessive but tho work done by many of tho tradesmen is of a very inferior kind.
