WELLINGTON.
(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, May 8. STOCK .EXCHANGE. On the Stock Exchange yesterday Talisman shares sold at £2 10s; .Backwater shares sold at £1 6s 'and Waihi Consolidated at £1 6s. River Plates sold at £1 12s 3d and Taranaki Petrol at 8s 6d. To-day Bank of iNew Zealand shares sold at £9 9s and New Zealand Insurance shares sold at £3 15s Gd.
EVANGELIC MEETINGS. The Evangelic meetings that were commenced in the Post Office Square have been abandoned pro tern owing to the boisterous weather. Yesterday, says the “Tost,” a southerly howled for the benefit of about thirty men who lounged in the lee of a building, but no Evangelistic voice swelled the chorus. To-day the northerly had the arena, to itself and the 'audience consisted of one grizzled old mail, peacefully smoking a wellcolored clay, and in the place where the van with the harmonium and the reformers -was wont to be stood a lorry laden with four hogsheads. CASH SYSTEM. Tile cash ant! coupon system adopted by the ' Wellington bakers has caused a great deal of extra work to be thrown upon the drivers of the delivery carts. Some men have taken from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. to finish their work. Naturally, they are now demanding extra pay for overtime, and, if such is not granted, their present intention is to go out on strike.
PERSONAL. On Monday next Supt.
