COMMERCIAL.
MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was a smaller yarding than usual in all classes of stock at tho Matawhero saleyards yesterday. Tho number of buyers in attendance was also small, and though bidding was brisk for a fow pens, the demand was soon supplied, and prices showed no advanco. Tho quality of the cattle showed an improvement, and sold readily/'While ewes in lamb and empty ewes were not such a drug in the market as was tho case at tho last two sales. Tho store wethers on offer were also better, and brought satisfactory prices. SHEEP. _ In all about 9000 sheep and lambs wero yarded. Fat wethers sold from 12s 6d to 13a .Gd,. poorer sorts 11s to 12s 3d, fat owes lls 9d to 15s. Store sheep mat with good domand, very few pens being passed. Ewes brought from 4a to lls 9d, a pen of poor quality selling at 2s. Wethers sold freely from 10s 3d to 12s 6d, tho following being some of the principal lines: 34 empty forward ewes Bs, 19 empty ewes well forward 9s, 43 ewes in lamb 10s, 74 ewes in lamb lls 3d, 256 empty ewes lls, -87 forward wethers 1,2 s 6d, 18 wethers small bpt well -forward lls 9d, 585 2-tooth wethers in good condition 12s 6d, 100 wethers at lls 6d >and 100 at lls 3d, 700 big framed forward sheep at 12s. 6d. Hoggets, 206 at 7s, 561 at 5s 6d, poorer sorts 4s 6d. CATTLE. The pens contained about 400 head, mostly stores. Fat steers sold at £6 12s 6d, a pen of four bringing £7. Stores sold well, and somo of tho prices were as follows: 45 forward steers £6, 20 at £4 15s, 22 poorer quality £4 12s 6d, others from £3 10s to £4, heifers £2 to £3, yearling steers to £2 15s, stere calves £1 16s, heifer calves £l. Pigs were in good demand, and sold well. Porkers brought from 21s to 255,' smaller sorts 17s 6d, weaners 8s to .lps, suckers 6s 6d. ' LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE. The directors recommend no dividend, as it is essential that the Company’s financial strength be maintained to meet the requirements of the new plant, and the expenses of maintenance and development, and contributions to tho water supply scheme.
