Air. Laird, representing the Spiral Steel Pipe Company of AVanganui, tho contractors for tho Borough water supply, arrived from the South yesterday to supervise the repairs to the damaged pipe lino through the flood in Alarch last. - -Lady Plun-ket, the Hon. -Kathleen Plunket and party return to Auckland from Rotorua to-morrow afternoon. On Saturday, Lord and Lady Plunket and staff leave for Kawa-u where they -are to upend a week. — Press Association. A r osterd-ay afternoon-the employees of -the Borough Council -waited upon Air J. Townloy, ex-mayor, and asked him to accept a silver tea service and salver, suitably inscribed, as -a token of their esteem. Air -AI. Morgan (Borough Overseer), in making the presentation, expressed regret at the separation of Air Townley from the position of Mayor, and referred feelingly to the general good terms upon which the men had worked -while Mr Townley was at tlie bead of the Council. -Air Townley, tn accepting the handsome present, thanked the men for their consideration and kind expressions and assured them he would -always treasure their gift and look back with pleasure to the happy days when he -had worked with them for the -good of the. town. Air. A. E. Cohen, associate editor of the “Evening Star,” Dunedin, was in town yesterday. Air AA r . F. -Massey, -ALP., Leader of the Opposition, left for Auckland -by the Alonowni yesterday. Air AV. H. Kerries, ALP. went north by the Monowai yesterday.
