Tim. Turnngamu green was well patronised 'by members on Saturday afternoon, and a number of friendly games wore played. The draw for the third round of the handicap singles competition took place during tho afternoon, and resulted as follows:—1$. Bird v. It. Sheet, iM, G. Nasmith (iun.) v. G. Matthowson, AV. J. V. Gnudin v. P, Hallam. ' GISBORNE CLUB. Ale tubers and visitors assembled on the Kaiti green on Saturday, when a number of intereating games were played. Two games in the handicap singles competition wero played, Paltridge defeating Corson ,and being in turn beaten by F. J. Pottie. F. Now Zealand beat Australia by two points. , . (Received April 26, 9.18 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 25. Tho bowling match, Australia versus tho. Dominion, drew a good attendance. at tho Aslifiold grocn, and an exciting finish was witnessed. The weather was very fine. Tho-most sanguine supporters of tho Now Zealanders did not contemplate a victory against such a strong contingent as Now South AA’ales and A’ietoria wore able to put up against thorn, yet, to everybody’s astonishment, tho visitors romped over their opponents in the lirst fiftoen heads, anil Australia did not appear to have a chance. The visitors wero eleven up on the sth head, twenty-two up on tho 10th, hurl twenty-four up on tho loth head. Gradually the Australians began to pull down tho lead, and up to tho 20th and in tho final five heads they wore tho New Zealanders down till they were only three up. AA’ith four rinks finished tho score stood: Now Zealand 97, Australia 85, but Bentley’s rink was 12 down, and a great fight for victory ensued on their last head. The spectators were much excited. Beforo the skips took their shots the New Zealanders were lying a couple. Scoullar, however, took one out, and Strong, the opposing skip, failed to alter the position with his last two shots, and Bentloy managed to score, leaving the New Zealanders victors by a couple of points. Bentley 19;Mai'ks, Francis, Moses, Strong 29. - At the conclusion of tho match, Air. AlcLood, President of tho New South AVales Association, and Air. AVood, President of the AGctoriau Association, congratulated tho New Zealanders on their splendid victory. Tho visitors presented Air. Hanna, secretary of the Victorian Association, with a silver shaving outfit as a token of their appreciation of kindness received.
