LAND BALLOT.
MEADOAYBANK ESTATE. Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 26. A ballot for 12 sections on the Meadowbank Estate took place at Palmerston to-day. There were 78 applicants examined, of whom 12 were rejected, leaving 66, who put in 83 applications. It is said that- the rentals asked wove much too high, being more than double the amounts paid by farmers who utilised the land before it was taken by the Government-. Nearly all the applicants were strangers. The ballot resulted us follows: •Section IA, 607 acres 1 rood, halfyearly rental £B3 2s sd, James Alexander Orbbie (Ngupara). Twelve applicants. Section 2A, 625 acres 2 roods 81 perches, £54 18s, Donald Sutherland (AVoodstock). Seven applicants.^ Section 3A, 115 acres 1 rood 15 perches, £27 17s 6d, George Barrow (Gore). Nine applicants. Section 4A, 153 acres 2 roods 3o perches, £36 13s 6d, Hannah. McCabe (Weston). Eleven applicants. flection SA, 701 acres 0 roods 15 perches, £ls 2s 6d, Lucky M. Hughes (Dunedin). Nineteen applicants.. Section 6A and 10 A, 1066 acres or 13 perches, £75 3:;, Mary McCabe (Weston). Seven applicants. Section 7A, 260 acres 1 rood 20 perches, £42 10s Gd, Geb; J. T. Taylor (Timaru). Seven applicants.
