WEDNESDAY, April 22. (Before Mr. W. A. Barton S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Two first offenders wore convicted and fined 5s each with 2s costs, or in default 24 hours imprisonment. Thomas A. Twiss, for a second offence within a period of six months, was fined £1 with 2s costs, in default 4 days’ imprisonment. PROCURING LIQUOR, Thomas Marshall was charged with having, on the 21st day of April, nrocured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Mr. G. Stock appeared for accused, who pleaded guilty. Mr. Stock explained that his client had not been in court when the order was issued. He was only a recent arrival from Scotland and did not fully understand the exact meaning of prohibition orders. His Worship said that lie would take into account what counsel had said, but lie thought that accused must surely have known the meaning of the order. A fine of £3 with 2s costs was imposed, in default 7 days’ imprisonment with hard labor. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. William James Imrio was charged with ha ving oil June 4th, 1907,obtained goods to the value of £4 7s 3d from Messrs Patterson, and Barr, Dunedin, by means of false pretences. Sergeant Hutton conducted the prosecution and asked for a remand to Dunedin until Friday, May Ist. His Worship granted the remand, and bail was allowed, accused in £SO, and two sureties of £25 each.
