NO-LICENSE.
PROSPECTS AT THE COMING ELECTION. ACTIVITY IX THE SOUTH. (Special to “Times”) WELLINGTON, April 22. Tho No-License party has been working quietly but actively since last i election. It lias also secured a considerable fighting fund, and a gentleman who saw tho subscription list, Isays lie was surprised to find it had ! received such general support front the community. The party has been: instrumental in placing tliousaiulsiof names on the rolls.
A prominent member of Parliament who sought to know and who is not at all a prohibitionist, passes the opinion that no-license will be carried in the Hutt electorate. It is certain 'that a large number of moderate drinkers in that electorate will vote 'for no-license. The other side seem to be taking matters easily.. A visitor from Christchurch, who was in Timaru on Saturday last, expressed an opinion to a representative of the “Post” that no-license will probably be carried in Christchurch at next election, though he said lie would be very sorry if his prediction proved correct. The visitor added that the no-license party in Christchurch had opened a vigorous campaign, while the license party seemed to be doing nothing. The nolicense party at its opening meeting three • weeks ago appealed for £I2OO to defray tho expenses of the coming campaign, and before the meeting closed, the sum of £l6O was handed in in cash an dcbeques. Referring to Ashburton, the visitor said he firmly believed that the next poll would see a reversion to license.
