AVAIAIATA RIDING

Tho election for the vacant seat on. tho Cook County Council, caused by the resignation of Mr. Howard Kenway, was hold yesterday. Polling took place at four centres, viz., Gisborne, AVaimata, AVaiohika, and Tatapouri, and the candidates were Messrs C. Gray and Thos. Holden. Slight interest was taken in the contest, and only a comparatively small number of ratepayers recorded their votes. The election finally resulted in favor of Air. Holden by the narrow majority of 4 votes. The following are the official returns from the
