The finals for tlio Sandlant gold medal for the single sculls race were entered upon yesterday, when J. Nicholas beat W. Webb and .B. Lowe defeated C. Somerville. Nicholas and Lowe then returned to the starting point to fight .the final battle lor the coveted medal, and after a- slashing race to the Haiti bridge, where Nicholas Hist caught his rival, Lowe was driven by the force of the tide against the niles of tho bridge, and to save his frail boat from disaster lie dived into the water and took his boat t 0 n snot wliero she was not likely to get'damaged. Nicholas rendered every possible assistance to his opponent. It has been mutually agreed to re-row the race.
