WANGANUI, April 20. _ Tho weather was good for the holiday, which was observed quietly. Tho polo club hold successful sports. The Presbyterian Bible Class camp was concluded. St. Peter’s (Aucldand) won tho champion banner, St. John’s (Wellington) being second, and St. Peter’s (Christchurch) third. WELLINGTON, April 20. Jas. Price, who was injured by falling from a vehicle which collided with a pole, is dead. John Sidney Hines, rematlded to Wellington, was charged with the’ theft of £lls from David Sutherland. Tho latter was found dead, and was known to havo had that sum mentioned in liis possession before liis decease. Thos. Langdon Joll, a dairy factory proprietor, residing at Okiawa, Taranaki, met with a serious accident in Lambton Quay at 7 p.m. to-night. In getting off a tramcar before it stopped, ho slipped and fell, his head coming into violent contact with the road. Dr. Henry found tho base of Mr. Joll’s skull to be fractured. Tie is now in the hospital in a critical condition. Mr Joll is about 50 years of age, and is a well-known resident of Taranaki. HOKITIKA, April 20. James Marshall, a well-known identity, was found dead in his bed this evening. No particulars are to hand. TIMARU, April 20. The holidays passed off very pleasantly, and the weather was fine, with tho exception of light showers of rain on Saturday. Tho attractions of today were the local bowling tournament and golf tournament. In the country tho Fairlie show attracted a large attendance, and the Teinuka bicycle ’sports had a record gate for Easter, a further popular attraction being a second-class band contest, which was won by the Lyttelton Marino Band, tho Timaru Marine Band being second. Waimate and Christchurch Elite Bands also played. The athletic events were well contested. ' DUNEDIN, April 20. Mary Jane Brailey, a married woman, 54 years of age, residing near Port Chalmers, died suddenly while sitting at the dinner-table yesterday. At the inquest a verdict of death from natural causes was returned.
