THE GOVERNOR’S RESIDENCE., (Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, April 11/ Tho “Post’s” Palmerston North correspondent telegraphs to-day: “The work of preparing Mr Strang’s residencesat Hokowhitu for occupation by tho Governor will be commenced on Monday. Extensive additions are contemplated, including the erection of a two-storied building for servants’ accommodation, and for an aide do camp and also a billiard room. Mr It. Hogg, of Wellington, a member of the Socialist Party, denit's the statement made by Mr Trogear, secretary of the Labor Department," in a telegram to the Blackball 7 miners, that Mr Hogg had wired recommending the suggestion that terms of settlement should be accepted. Mr Hogg says that some days prior to the date on which Mr. Tregear telegraphed as above, he (Mr Hogg) wired to tho Blackball people suggesting conditions for a settlement but ho took tho precaution to add the words: “I don’t advise.” Mr. Hogg said to a “Post” reporter, “The telegram stated by Mr l'regear to have come from mo was not sent- by me. I did not see it and did not sign it and I did not givo authority to send the message. I acted throughout as a private citizen and not as a member of the Socialist Party. The Wellington Trades and Labor Council has invited all local unions to send financial assistance to the Blackball miners. The invitation, it is stated, is being responded to by almost every union, some sending lump sums of £5 and upwards weekly, but- one union has written refusing to comply with the request of the Council. “It looks as though tho Blackball Mining Coy. will reap very few dividends this year,” said the president at last night’s meeting of the Council when the replies of different unions were being read.
