SATURDAY, APRIL 11. (Before MV. W. A. Barton, S.M.) A MAINTENANCE CASE. Edit'll Lilian Jobson (Mr. Stock) proceeded against her husband, A\illiam Jobson, sheep fnnnor, 'Alallia, to ltavo an existing order varied, and for additional maintenance. Mr. Stock outlined the case for tlio complainant, stating, that an order already existed , for £1 per week for complainant and one child. Since the issue of the order.two other children had been born, and complainant now sought, fpr an order to provide for these two, and stated that sho would be satisfied if the amount wero £2 per week. His Worship inquired ns to what, defendant’s' means wore, and counsel stated that ho ■ was a shcepfarmor, having close on 2000 acres at Mahia, a portion of which was freehold. Counsel also added that defendant had boon notified to attend at Court, bat, although in town, had refused to do so. His Worship, after hearing evidence, said that he must assumo from defendant’s noii-appearaiico that ho was in a position to pay. An order would bo made accordingly -for 10s per week for each of tho two additional children, bringing the total amount rip to £2 per woek. FALSE pretences. Alexander Camera, alias Forbes, was charged on remand with having, on May 11, 1004, at Gisborne, obtained the sum of £4 16s from Edward John Harris, of the Albion Hotel, by means of'a valueless cliequo. Sergeant Hutton conducted tho prosecution, and Mr. T. • Alston Coleman renresented tho accused. Edward John Harris, of Hastings, and formerly of Gisborne, gavo evidence as to accused having cashed tho cheque with him in the Albion Hotel on the day in question. Ho was perfectly sure that accused was the man. -in Further evidence was given by O. 31. iSargisson, of the local branch of the Bank of N.S.W., and by Robert H. Gover, clerk at tho Bulls branch, on which branch tho cliequo was drawn.

Accused, acting upon tho advice of his counsel, pleaded guilty, and was remanded for sentence to tho Supreme Court at Napier, bail being allowed, self in £SO and two sureties of £25 each. On a further charge of having, in May, 1904, obtained £2 TOs from H. Sargeant, hotelkeeper, Napier, by means of a valueless cheque, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Ivim-: bofton, accused was remanded to Napier, on the application of the police.
