LOCAL INDUSTRIES MOVEMENT.

EXHIBITION OF NEW ZEALAND GOODS. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 10. There is a proposal afoot that in lieu of the'Auckland winter show, which has been abandoned this year, an exhibition of Now Zealand made goods should be held. This exhibition will embrace all varieties of manufactures representative of New Zealand industries, and co-opera-tive action is expected to be taken by the Wellington and Canterbury Industrial Associations. A well-at-tended meeting of the Auckland Industrial Association was held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon. The chairman of the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association (Mr Arch. Clark) presided, and there were also present: Messrs L. J. Baguall (chairman of the Chamber of Commerce), C. H. Poole, M.P., and others. Mr Clark moved “that arrangements be proceeded with at- once to give effect to the proposal to hold in Auckland an exhibition of the natural products and manufacturers of Now Zealand.”

Mr Buttle said be thought it necessary to impress on tho people of New Zealand the importance of the local industries. Very few people realised the great number of goods held in Auckland. In his opinion they should bo ticketed, “Made in New Zealand,” Irrespective of being made by one manufacture or another. Furthermore ho realised that it would be necessary to- engage a separate building for the display of goods which could not bo put into shop windows. He moved “that the project take the form of an exliibitiou in shop windows in the main thoroughfares.” Mr G. Fraser seconded the motion.

Mr C. H. Poole, M.P., said he thought there was nothing so good as an exhibition similar to that proposed, and ho believed that “the talking advertisement” was best. It was estimated 1 that3o,ooo people would come down into Auckland on the occasion of tbe first of the American fleet. Further than that, they would have 12,000 men from the other side of the ocean.. They would have tho city dressed in its best, and he believed it would be a great success if they held the exhibition when people were here from every part of the Dominion to see the American fleet. Th motion was carried.
