Our rowing critic supplies the following comments on the Gisborne Club crews:—

Stroke: Bayly.—Has a nice long swing, but is hardly a finished oarsman. He can pull a strong oar if he likes, but is lacking in staying power in a hard race. Should watch tho slight jerk at tho finish of his stroke. No. 3: Puflett: Would make a good oarsman if trained. Pulls a strong oars but rows with a rounded back, and has a tendency to raco his slide. Should sit up and watch the time, and refrain from talking in the boat No. 2: Johnson.—A good old horse, always .there when wanted, but lias a bad fault in losing his slide. Otherwise a good man. No. 1: Gumming.—Hardly a senior man. Should not swing so far back, nor make so much circular motion with the hands. Tries to pull beyond bis strength. TEN STONE CREW. Stroko: Bright.—Thinks too much of stylo, and requires a quicker catch, and should free his muscles a. littlo more. , No. 3: Butler.—Should be stroko. As far as rowing is concerned is tlm best oar in the boat. Pulls a powerful oar and keeps splendid time Without him the boat would be among tho “also starteds.” No. 2.: Doyle: A good oar, bUu has a strong tendency to put too mil'll circular motion into his hanls. J nus a strong oar, keeps good time, n.d sits up well. Could be a littlo liter in tho catch: , . No. A: Bennett. —Wants a. lot of coaching. Overdoes the eaten auci trios to pull beyond his si rr ’gih and weight, appearing to make liar:l vole with his arms'. If the stroke stuo.es the race this crew will win by as much as they want to. JUNIOR CREW. Stroke: Dustin (captain of the shed) —A powerful oar, but has a bad fault of rowing with a rounded back. He has also a. tendency to overreach, but is otherwise a goon man. ‘No 3: Dods.—Loses his slideShould sit up and come forward slower, and shoot his hands tin ay. A good grafter, but watches his car. No 2: Stevenson.— Rows with a rounded back, and should sit up.

Races his slide, and is not quick enough with his hands. Should sit up and throw his tlioultloiis oil t > it AVatches his oar. .

No. 1: Ruseko.—Has a bad fault of watching his oar, but is a strorg rower. Should Keep his eyes on tlio boat and watch tho time. T.b .•» crow should win. Tho following rre the draws for iio Maiden Sculling Event in ilio U'sborno Club: E. futtrell. v. AV. Lufctrell, E. D. Cliatfield v. R. Henley, 11. P. Hamilton v. E. Swinnerton, L. Gideon a byo.
