MR. DEAKIN DEFEATED,, A CRISIS ARISES. United Press Association— Copyright unnea c LjEr/BO URNE, April 10. \t a late hour last night Mr. Deakin suffered a reverse, which caused him to ndiourn the House till'Wednesday in order that the Government might, consider tho position. The crisis arose out of a motion moved by Mr. Webster, for tho appointment of a Royal Commission to supersede the Cabinet Committee now about to commence inquiry into Post Ofllce disorganisation. An adjournment of the debate was moved, in which tlio Ministerialists were defeated by 31 to 28, and Mr. Deakin intimated that he accepted it ns a censure on the Government. What tho result will bo depends largely upon tho Labor party, but as the caucus was not solid on Mr. Webster’s proposal it is probable matters will be smoothed over.
