BUILDING IN GISBORNE.

A RECORD YEAR. The largo amount of building that lias ta'ken place within the borough boundaries for the year ending March 31st constitutes a record, permits forbuikling improvements having been issued for a. value of no less than £85,380. This amount does not include buildings erected in tho districts that are adjacent to the borough boundaries, but are strictly confined to only the area- where tho 116 rough Council’s by-laws apply. The handsome shops and offices that have gone up in Gladstone Road, and are now in courso of erection, provide a total of £12,499 for that fare, which is over an average of £IOOO spent each mouth. The principal streets where large buildings have gone up are : Lowe Street £ 1 350, Peel Street £7400, Childers Road £3OO, Bright Street £3450, Fitzlierbert Street £4559, Roebuck Road £1448, Stout Street £560, Aberdeen Road £775, and Read’s Quay one building £BOO. Building has been general throughout both town and suburbs, and in addition to tho many handsome buildings in tlio business portion of tho town, a fair number of handsome private residences have been built in various parts. Taking it on an average, this is equal to building permits to the value of £1042 being issued each, week lor the year and, as an average, this would iio hard to heat by any town of equal size in the Dominion.
