Tho races for tho Licensed Victuallers’ Shield bctwen the Gisborno and Poverty Bay Rowing Clubs will eventuate on Saturday afternoon next. In addition to these there will bo an exhibition sculling event between Mr. W. "Webb (world’s champion) and Mr, Rees Jones (the local champion). Tho following oilicials have been appointed for tho several events: — Starter, Mr. Albert Robinson; umpire, Mr. \V. Hackett; judge, Mr. G. 15. Oman. The Harbor Board are to be asked to place their launch at tho disposal of the umpire. Tho following is tho programme and order of events: 2 p.m., Senior Race, 2 miles; 2.30 p.m.. Exhibition Sculling Event botween W. Webb and Rees Jones; 3 p.m., Junior Race, 1 mile; 3.15 p.m., Ist heat Gisborno Club’s Maiden Sculls; 3.30 p.m., 2nd heat Gisborne Club’s Maiden Sculls; 3.45 p.m., Tenstone Crews. Poverty Bay havo drawn No. 2 position and Gisborno No. 1 position for tho Senior Race (No. 1 position is on tho town side of the river). For the Junior and Tonstono races Poverty Bay havo drawn the town sido and Gisborno tho Kaiti sido of the river. Tho senior race will in all probability bo rowed on tho Tarukeru river, finishing at tho Gisborne Club’s boathouse. Tho committee meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday to consider whether it is advisable to row it from tho harbor inwards, in which case it will finish opposite the freezing works. All tho other events will bo rowed on the Waimata course, finishing at tho end of tho wharf. No doubt Mr. W. AYebb’s action in offering to givo an exhibition for the benefit of local oarsmen will be greatly appreciated, and a record crowd is expected to view Saturday’s events.
