MONTGOMERY’S ENTERTAINERS.

“Standing room only” was the legend that greeted late-comers to the Alhambra Theatre on Monday after- .;! icon and evening, when Air Edmond Montgomery’s talented company of mt-erbainers made their first appear-.' mce in Dunedin. Pictures and periormers had evidently been preceded iy their reputation, for the theare was crowded literally to the doors, i number of people standing packid together at the back of the circle snd pit. The performance fully jus--ified the attendance, which is sayng a good deal. The salient fea--ure of this entertainment is the disduct strain of cleverness, as apart from the innate smartness that runs brough each turn. The entertainment opened with the display of jinematograph pictures, which at nice put the audience into a good lumor, and convinced it that if the ither items of the programme were .s good they were assured of an enjoyable evening. These pictures are .aid to bo more restful to tho eye .haii the ordinary bioscopic portrai- • ure, aud certainly their steadiness .as very apparent. These pictures were shown in instalments, with ilustrated songs and various eccentricities sandwiched between them. This arrangement resulted most happily, and in this instance certainly proved the proverb that variety is clianaiig. TUe first illustrated song was mug by Miss Hilda Hargood, a lady ■»’ho uses- a well-trained voice with celling effect, and who seems -to thoroughly enter into the spirit of aer songs. The illustrations are vi-‘ /id, and well above the average itandard of such productions. Montgomery’s Pictures and Entertainers ire a novelty, aud ha.vo certainly mcceeded in taxing the capacity of •ho Alhambra Theatre io the utmost. Among the illustrated songs, that -by Mr Edmund Montgomery, ‘Aren’t Ton Coming Back to Ole New Hamphire, Alollie?’ is well worthy of es—, aecial notice. Seats mav be reservd without extra charge* at Miller’s •looking office.
