Notwithstanding iifiiculties in tho way, tho club start'd on its career under splendid coil- , itions, with a membership -of 94, /liicli has increased to almost double, tanding to-day at- 174. The attracLons of the club include readingoom, billiard-room, draughts and arious games, refreshments, music, te. Only one-billiard .tournament •/as held during tho year. This tommy was very interesting, and aroused , good deal of interest, and was won ■y E. Austin, F. Wilkinson second, /. Somervell third. Tho committee atend holding a number of tournalonts of a various nature throughout ho coming winter. Efforts to form a •ricket club proved unsuccessful, but ■/o hope for better things in this lino n the future. In February our then •resident, Mr. A. P. Hailey, tendered .is resignation through stress of busi:ess, and it was accepted; with regret. Mr. T. Holdswortli was elect'd to fill the- vacancy, and it is no Jittery to him to say that ho lias •arried out his duties with satisfaction o the club and with credit to liimslf. Mr. Brady was elected vicciresicleut vice Mr. Holdsworth, but mf-ortunately he lias had to be grantd six weeks’ leave of absence on acount of ill-licalth.. We all join in '.fishing him a speedy and safe rccovry. The event of tho year was tiie pening of tho new rooms, at which here was a large attendance of memmrs. presided over by His Worship die Mayor, Mr. Townlc-y, who formally declared the club open. There •ere also present a number of visitors Tom sister clubs, and Mr Win. Webb, culling champion. All tho visitors •xpressed their satisfaction and good visiles for the club’s now premises, Thick are very satisfactory and a defided acquisition to the town. The ocial side of members has not been vorlooked, the committee having •arious ideas in view for the winter sellings. Members havo been uartiularly fortunate in their choice of ■ustodian in Mr. Stuckey, who has arried out liis duties in an able manlier, and considering the disadvantages under which ho worked is deerving of our best thanks anil appreciation. The finances of the club am, as can be seen from a perusal of ho balance-sheet, in a satisfactory ■onditiou.”

Tho Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, congratulated the dub on its excellent position. Tho election of officers resulted as Allows:—President, Mr. T. A. Holdsrortli; vice-presidents. Messrs A. L. Jrady and M. A. Neill; secretary uid treasurer, Mr. A. Ward; nianagenent committee, Messrs J. Thomson, bapidge, E. Miller, A. H. Westwood, ). Smith, and L. L. Friar; social ■ommittee, Messrs Paltridgo, Oliver, nd Lowe; trustees, Rev. Dawson homas, Messrs Lester Redward and 1. F. Stuckey. Several questions were raised, and fc was decided to arrange various tournaments and social evenings for :he winter months.
