Tho Management Committee of tho Now Zealand Rugby Union decidod to-night, subject to tho consent of the local unions concerned, to accept a shield presented by Mr. W. Dovenish, President of.the Nelson College Old Boys’ Football Club, for composition between the. Old Boys’ teams of the various colleges throughout tho Dominion. . Tho British football team is’ to leave Plymouth for Now Zealand next Siturdny by the Athenic.

POLO Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 2. Tho annual meeting of tho New Zealand Polo Association was held last night. Tho balanco showed a credit for tho year of £6 2s lOd. It was decided to hold tho next annual tournament at Palmerston North. Officers wero elected as follows: President, His Excellency tho Governor; vicepresident, Mr. G. S. Abraham; committee, Messrs. A. H. Russell, D. G. A. Cooper, S. Williams, J. D. Hall, and G. L. Levin; secretary, Mr. C. J. Crawford; auditor. Mr. E. Bucholz. Affiliation was granted to tho Opotoki and Pareora clubs.

A MANGAHEIA WIN

A. hard northerly wind blew across the grounds at Miramar yesterday, when tho N.Z. Polo Association’s annual tournament was continued. Two matches for the handicap cup were played, and, despite the wind, tho standard of play was good all round. There was but a limited number of spectators. The first game was between Christchurch and Fern Flats. The former had 8 goals concession, and the latter 16. The game was well contested, Fern Flats scoring five times and Christchurch three, thus with tho concessions the game ended—Fern Flats 21/ Christchurch 11. Manawatu was conceded 4 goals in the match with Mangaheia and the latter/7. Features of tho game were the playing of Strang and It. Levin for Manawatu, t-lio hard hitting and all-round play of Reynolds, and the keen guard work of the Murphys for Mangaheia. With the concessions the game ended —Mangaheia 9, Manawatu 6. CRICKET. The following will represent United against Taruheru at the Freezing works to-morrow: IV. Gibson, J. Gibson, Reynold, Hallamoro, Whyto, Coop, Yeats, Gorriian, Bowman, Sharp, Burke. The above teams niet in the Thursday competition on the Domain yesterday afternoon. Union winning the toss decided to bat, and made a very poor start, four wickets falling for 23 runs. J. Gibson and J. Lang, however, 'became associated, and were not separated until the total had reached 75. Gibson played a splendid innings, and fully maintained the high reputation which he has made for himself as a batsman. The innings eventually closed for 80. Te Rau then went to bat, and scored the necessary uumber of runs for the loss of five wickets. The howling and fielding on both sides was excellent, and consequently the scoring was slow throughout. HAWKE’S BAY v. WELLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) . NAPIER, April 2. The interprovincial cricket jjiatcli, Wellington v. Hawke’s Bay, was commenced on the Recreation Ground this afternoon. The. wicket was in splendid order, and Hawke s Bay, batting first, scored 198 for seven wickets, Lusk being not out with a chanceless 84. The other principal scorers were Hawke 15, Hinumarsh 24, and; Cato 10.

TURANGANUI CLUB. There was a fair muster of members at tho abovo green yesterday afternoon, when a number of interesting games were played. The last match in the first round of tho handicap fours competition was played, when Gaudin’s link, consisting of Skillieorn, McConnell, Williams, and Gaud in beat Neill, Birrell; Nusmitb, inn. (substitute for Alorse), and Nasmitli, sen. G.uidin’it'rink established a lead early in the game, and up to half way through had matters mil their own way, and led by 16 to 2 on tho tenth head. From this out rsasmitli and his men began to assert themselves, and on tlio 1/tlv head tho scores read 21-10 in favor of Gaudm, who oventually won by 24 to 12. Tho Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night discussed the question of sending representatives to tho Olympian games to bo hold in London in July next. It was pointed out that tho Council had no funds for tho purpose, but it was decided, if money was subscribed by the public, to send Kerr, of Wellington, and Murray, of Christchurch, ns accredited representatives of the Dominion. Tho Council also decided to write to Guy Haskins, Philadelphia, U.S.A., cx-New Zertlandor, and as'k him to represent tho colony at the games.
