SHIPPING TROUBLES.
SHIPPING RINGS GRANT .PREFERENTIAL RATES. United Press Association-Copyright (Received April 2, 9.58 p.m.) LON DON. April 2. Mr. Sanderson, the manager of tho White Star line, testified beforo a Royal Commission that shipping .rings were granting preferential rates to American goods shipped from New York to Australia, via Liverpool. This was due to the fact that different interests wero mutually fighting in favor of a direct service from Now York to Australia;, and being unable to come to an agreement created a strong point in •shippers’ favor. Tho tendency is to increase tho size of vessels, and tho. rates are gradually being lowered m •order to draw cargoes from sailers.
