ECCLESIASTICAL TROUBLE
THE GEELONG BENEFICE. United Press Association—Copyright •• LONDON, March 31. Inquiries show that the acc.usa- ! tic ns against Ilev. I ash, know as ' No.. 2 charge, rest en rely on statements made by Canon J.mlsley, who was vicar of Huddersfield when Rev. Nash was curate there to the Bishop of Lichfield aiul others, which possibly reached Dr Moule, Bishop of Duiham. Dr Moule now calls these statements hearsay rumdrs, and Canon Birdsley has written on the sub- ‘ ject as follows: “As a matter of jus-, ■ l j tic© and honor with the evidence ' now before, me I cannot confirm iny statement to Bishop Lichfield.” Nevertheless Archbishop Clarke says that, he 'holds written statements in connection-with No. 2 charge, which •is an accusation relating to Nash s conduct towards a lady member of ‘ Canon Bardsley’s family, the gravity '■/ of which justifies his refusal to reinstate Nash as incumbent of Christ Church, Geelong.” ' MELBOURNE, March 31. ■ v■ • The vestry of Christ Church, Geei long, resolved to give loyal support to no other nomination but that of Canon Nash unless such documentary evidence is produced as would cause them to alter their decision.
