A HIDDEN STATUE.

ITS REMOVAL SANCTIONED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. Owing to the erection of the tramway shelter shed and sanitary conveniences in the centre of Cathedral Squre, the stature of J. R. Godley, founder of the Province, has been so obscured that removal to a better site is deemed necessary. At last night’s meeting of the City Council a letter was reeieved from the Anglican Cathedral Chapter, offering a site for the statue in the Cathedral grounds. The Reserves Committee recommended acceptance of the, site. Considerable discussion followed, regret being expressed that the Council ever allowed tho shelter sheds to be erected, disfiguring tiro Square, but the recommendation was adopted.
