THE TURF.

WAIAPU RACING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING

Tlio annual race meeting of tho above club took place on -Monday, the 23rd inst., having been postponed owing to- unfavorable weather. Iho weather was good, but tho approaches to the course were in a bad stato, especially the road from Tuparoa to the course. Tho meeting oassed oS very well on the whole, one of the .most pleasing features, perhaps, being the absence of protests, which are ono of tho bugbears of present-day racing. The fields were rather poor, but this is somewliat accounted for by the -fact of tbe club closing their nominations for the principal races rather too early. The results of the .various races were as follows : Handicap Hurdle Race.—Glen Airic 1, Creeping Jane 2. Maiden Plate. —Wairarangi I, Haerema.i 2. . '’Waia-pu Cun.—Reay 1, Waunaori 2. District Scurry.—Flume 1, Star 2. Flying Handicap.—Lady Crispin 1, Glen Afric 2. District Welter Handicap.—Awanui I,.Flume 2. Farewell Handicap.—Reay 1, Prince Hassan 2.
