Speight waited on Mr. McNab on Saturday to discuss matters connected with the records of the recent- scientific expedition to tho Auckland and Campbell Islands, which was carried out under the auspices of the 1 lnlosopliical Institute. The Minister requested the deputation to send m a formal application, and lie would discuss with his colleagues what assistance tlio Government would give. The volume should contain tho findings of the experts in their own particular lines, with illustrations -indicative of marvellous forms of animal life and specimens of various kinds which were obtained. The Minister also discussed with the deputation matters in connection with scientific .investigations of Arthur’s Pass tunnel by New Zenland scientists, and advised them to which quarter to make tlieir suggestions and applications.
