GISBORNE MAYORALTY.

MR. W. D. LYSNAR’S CANDIDATURE. MEETING OF SUPPORTERS. Tlio Fanners’ Union Club Room was crowded last evening by a meeting of ratepayers willing to support Mr. W. D. Lysnar in his candidature for tlio office of Mayor of Gisborno. Tlio meeting was most enthusiastic, and unanimous that Mr. Lysnar should stand. Mr. Geo. Mattliewson was voted to the chair, and said lie had known Mr, Lysnar for many years, and the candidate needed no introduction to tho ratepayers present. Ho referred to tlio gallant fight’put lip by Mr. Lysnar at the two past Mayoral elections, and was satisfied tlie candidate was a progressive man, without being too extravagant in his ideas. A number of other gentlemen spoke in favor of Mr. Lysnar becoming a candidate. Mr. Lysnar, in a short address,thanked those present for their support, and outlined his views upon tlie water supply, drainage, roads, and Harbor Board questions, and his remarks were received with applause. Continuing, Mr. Lysnar said in view of the importance of tlieso questions at the present time, ho felt it was his duty to come forward and fulfil the pledges made last year. A general committeo of fifty-one gentlemen, with a sub-committee of twelve, was formed to work for Mr. Lysnar’s return.
