The sum of £4299 was put through the machine, making £8263 for tho meeting, as against £12,764 last year. Twelve bookmakers plied their calling. Tho first day of the South Auckland Racing Club’s meeting was held in threatening weather. The course was heavy owing to the late rains. The following are the results:— Trial Handicap.—Tui Tua 1, Kitua 2, Nulla Nulla 3. Won by a length. Time, lmin 36^sec. Hurdles.—Kapakapa 1, Tui 2, Hill Flower 3. Scratched: Pukekohe. Won by a head after a magnificent finish. Time, 3min 4sec. Cup.—Lady Huno 1, Syren 2, Certainty 3. All started. Montigo and Lord Seaton were left at the post. Won by two lengths, a head separat•ing second and third horses. lime, 2miu 16sec. , , ■ , ™ Steeplechase.—Pierro T, Loch 1 yn° 2 Kapakapa 3. Scratched : Hill 1 lower, Harkaway. Won easily.
