Tho Premier, replying to a deputation representing tho Independent Political League and Trades and Labor Council, agreed as to tho importance of legislation to preserve infant life, especially in view of the fact that the birth-rate in New Zealand last year was 28 per cent, below tho amount necessary to keep the country going. Ho promised-to bring before his colleagues proposals made for tho establishment of a State nursery and regulation of premiums for adoption, some premiums being regarded by the deputation ns a premium to murder.
