Taken all round, tlio applicants wero of a particularly good class, aiul a very considerable amount of capital was represented There are still a few sections not applied for, and it probable that a ballot will bo held oil Saturday for any that may remain unallotted. The ballot will take place this morning at 10 o’clock in the Drillshed. Tlio objection having been raised that the values placed on tlio different sections by tho Government wero too high, Mr. Hyde, a member of the Board, when seen by a “Times reporter, stated that, in his opinion, a thoroughly practical farmer would doubtless bo successful oil tho land, but that there was considerable doubt as to whether any other applicant without wide experience would bo able to do well.
