THE OUTER HARBOR.
PLANS FORWARDED TO THE SHIPPING COMPANIES. Mr James Witty, secretary. to the Gisborne Harbor Board, yesterday forwarded tho plans of the proposed outer harbor accompanied by the fol-( lowing letter to tho local agents of the Union S.S. Co., Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., as agents for tho Shaw Savill and Albion .line, and Messrs I-luddart Parker and Co., tho New Zealand Shipping Co., and Messrs Williams and Kettle as agents for tho Tyser lino:—“Dear Sirs: At a special meeting of the Gisborne Harbor Board held to consider the plans and reports on tho proposed outer harbor a resolution was passed that the Board refer the reports and plans to the several shipping companies, asking them to give their opinion on the proposed scheme. I therefore forward herewith reports on tlie subject by Mr F. W. Marohant M. Inst. C.E., and Messrs Coodc and Son and Matthews, together with alternate plans. The Board will bo obliged if you will refer the matter to your marine superintendent asking him to consider tlie same, and kindy give the Board tho benefit of their opinion, ns to the proposed schemes iii so far as the site may bo deemed accessible, and safe for • anchorage. The main object of incurring an outlay of £40,000 is to provide a safe and commodious harbor for tho largest class of vessels visiting tlie port, anil unless this can bo assured, the Board would hardly bo justified in asking the ratepayers to sanction so great an expenditure merely to accommodate the smaller class of vessels.” Yours faithfully J. W. WITTY. Secretary.
