The Gazette notice of the coinmission of Lieut. Arthur T. Coleman, Gisborne Rifle A’olunteers, appears in the New Zealand Gazette to hand yesterday.
Last evening the members of the local police force gathered together to wish farewell to Sergeant Williams, who is under transfer to Auckland. Constable Davy occupied the chair, and, while voicing the general feeling of regret at Sergeant AA’i Ilia ms’ approaching departure, referred to the capabilities of their (most as an officer of the police. Oil behalf of those .assembled Constable Davy then handed to Sergeant AVilliuns a handsome case of pipes. Constables Scott and Tait added their tribute to the worth of the Sergeant, who feelingly replied, thanking those present for their great kindness.
Yesterday afternoon the literary and other stall's of the Gisborne Times Office met in the reporter’s room to say “good-bye” to Alt' Charles Kelly, who for some time has been on the journalistic staff of, the paper. The Editor, Air T. Clarkson, in referrj |](( to Ah- Kelly’s ability as a. journalist, stated that lie had given bis services most loyally to his employers and that the most cordial relations had existed between hnn anil tlie other members of the staffs. On behalf of bis fellow workers he presented him with a handsome travelling bag suitably inscribed, and wished him every success in the future. Other members of the staff expressed similar sentiments, and AllKelly suitably responded.
