THE BLACKBALL TROUBLE.
SETTLEMENT NO NEARER. A CONTRADICTED REPORT. Press Association. GREY'MOUTH, March 20. Ihe miners held a meeting -at Blackball this afternoon, hut nothing ot a definite nature was done. Mr. PV z 2 ei 'ald attended the meeting, and addressed the miners, advising them not on any account- to give wav. An Argus reporter interviewed the manager in reference to the paragraph appearing in an evening paper as follows:—‘‘There seems to he some possibility of an early settlement of the dispute, as the company has offered, one of the men now on strike informs us (in addition to the offers made after the close of the sitting of the Arbitration Court), to donate half of the £75 fine inflicted on the union.” The manager gives the statement that the company have offered to pay hai’f tlie fine, an emphatic denial. He does not- know where it originated, hut the company is no party to it; and that the company is prepared to take the dismissed men hack, and to allow 20 minutes crib time. Further than that they will not go.
The union will hold a meeting on Aloud ay morning at 10 o’clock, and until then thoro can be change in the position.
