HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

MONTHLY MEETING,

Tho usual monthly meeting of tho Gisborne Hospital Trustees was held at tho Cook County Chambers last evening. There wero present: Mr. J. W. Bright (chairman), the Hon. Captain Tucker, Messrs W. D. fe. Macdonald, E. H. Mann, 1. J- Lysnar, Geo. Darton, 11. Konway, and A. Dewing. ~ Tho Visiting Committeo recommended that increased accommodation bo provided for tho nursing stall at the hospital. , ~ Mr. Maun said that while thcro was no actual complaint from the nurses, tho committeo was able to see that tho accommodation was very unsatisfactory. Ono nurse was sleeping in a room screened off from tho kitchen, and there was a total lack of reasonable conveniences. Mr. Konwav suggested that an architect should ho consulted, to advise on wliat accommodation was required. After some informal discussion, the providing of increased accommodation was loft to the visiting committee to confer with Mr. Little (Borough Building Inspector), with a view to providing six extra rooms, the committeo to liavei power to call for tenders and put the work in hand. Captain Tucker said lie thought small rooms should be provided at the end of tho large rooms, where noisy patients, who, through thoir disease, kept other patients awake, could bo placed; the rooms to be padded, if necessary. Mr. Darton said that Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of. Hospitals, had recommended such rooms, and promised the Department would pay the cost.

Tho Chairman said it might be better to wait for Dr. Valintine’s report before any thing was done. Mr. Darton said that certain cases need a male attendant at night, and one should be -appointed. Captain Tucker agreed with the suggestion, stating that nurses had often to do most objectionable work. It was decided to consult Dr. Valintine on both suggestions. The question of providing apparatus for tho prevention of fire at the institution was referred to tho visiting committee.
