NEW YORK, Alarch 18. When, the British steamer Indefatigable arrived at Port An Prince, the firing of a- salute caused intense excitement. The natives feared a bombardment bad begun. The incident saved the execution of Lieutenant Larraque. The New York Herald states that the refugees, who reached Jonaives, including General Firman, are on board the French cruiser Destrees. The Powers had threatened to dopo >e General Mord Alexis, and create a provisional government, and expressed disapproval of further executions.
