ST. PATRICK’S DAY CELECELEBRATIONS.

The committee in charge of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration sports and social were most unfortunate in meeting with wet weather yesterday. Shortly after i) o’clock rain set in, and continued almost incessantly until long after midnight. The committee met in tho morning, and decided to postpone the sports, which were to have been held in the Victoria Domain, until Thursday next, notices to this effect being posted in conspicuous peaces, to prevent competitors and public from.visiting the groumls. The same handicaps and arrangements will, therefore, stand for next Thursday as for yesterday. THE SOCIAL. Despito tho heavy downpour and tho flooded state of the roads and water channels, tho social, which was held in His Majesty’s Theatre last evening, was well attended, about 150 counles being present. Dancing was indulged in until an early hour to music provided by Miss Moore’s orchestra, Messrs. V. Webb, A. Towivlcv, and M. O’Halloran acting as Ms.CJ. Tho ladies of the parish provided an excellent supper, and during tho evening Mrs. Maynard, on behalf of the Cathoilic community of Gisborne, presented , Mr. William Webb with a very handsome easy chair, in appreciation of his services to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church during the past 17 years.
